Don Of All Trades Celebrates International Women’s Day

Don Of All Trades Celebrates International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is an annual celebration on March 8 of every year showing respect, honor and appreciation towards women across the world. It is also a recognition of the economic, political and social achievements that women have fought for over the years.

Don Of All Trades Celebrates International Women's Day

Quick History of International Women’s Day

This celebrates the accomplishments (usually overlooked) of women as well as recognizing their achievements and the struggles that they have gone through.

The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1909 to honor to 1908 garment women’s strike in New York. The women were protesting their horrific working conditions.

On Saturday March 5, 2016  Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services  not only  wanted  to tell these women  why they  are so important, but to thank them for being there for us and for doing the great things that they do. We held an International Women’s Day Celebration luncheon in their honor. We are so happy how this event turned out that we are already planning for next year’s International Women’s Day Luncheon! We hope that  everyone who attended enjoyed this event as much as we did.

Here’s how our  wonderful afternoon unfolded below.

We arrived early to get the tables set up for our International Women’s Day Lunch in honor of some very special women.

After all of the hard work that went into preparing for this event, the BIG DAY was finally HERE  and we were getting excited and anxious for our guests to arrive.

Taking a moment to thank  our  very  good friend Carmela  not only for volunteering to help us with setting up for the event but for also taking photos.

Lots of tears shed and hugs given today during our speech taking the time to specifically acknowledge and thank each of these very special women for their contributions, support and sacrifices they have made in our lives, in their own and society.

This was a “caught off guard moment”  when Lisa the Events Coordinator at Herizon House presented us with this Certificate of Appreciation awarded to our Helping Hands Building Trees of  Hope Project. It was a very proud and humbling moment.

Vanity Bath Upgrades-Don Of All Trades

Ancona-Seaside Cottage Bath Vanity-Don Of All Trades

If your budget only allows to make one upgrade to your bathroom décor, consider a new bathroom vanity. Vanities are the focal point of any bathroom. Have you ever noticed how your eyes go right to the mirror? This happens because contemporary bathroom vanities convey the first impression of the room. You gain a great opportunity to get an excellent design return on investment by just simply upgrading one piece.

Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services recently replaced an outdated bathroom vanity including the sink, countertop and faucet and replaced it with this new Seaside Cottage Bath Vanity Model.

The Seaside Cottage Bath Vanity adds a charm to the bathroom décor.  The Seaside Cottage features two cabinet doors and a drawer fitted with soft-closing hardware. The cabinet space and full-extension drawer will help  keep  bath essentials tucked away while the ceramic countertop provides ample room for toiletries. Fully handcrafted by skilled carpenters with 100% environmentally friendly rubber-wood; this premium quality vanity offers exceptional quality, durability and beauty.

This project involved  removing the sink from the vanity. The  water supply lines did not have  shut off valves so we  install two of them.

The next step was removing  the counter top and the original anchored vanity. New vinyl tiles were installed where the old vanity was originally located.

Our client saved money on flooring costs due to the fact that they had saved left over tile from when the floor was originally installed. The floor was grouted  which resulted in a perfect match.

This new Seaside Cottage Bath Vanity Model was installed including the La Toscana Novello Single Handle Lavatory Faucet Model tie everything together.

Update-Helping Hands Tree’s of Hope Project-Don of All Trades

Over the past 18 month we have been going through some big changes. We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes but we know you haven’t been really been able to see the benefits of those changes yet.

Below is just one of the important commitments we’ve been working on and will continue to work on in 2016.

At Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services, we believe it’s important to give back to the community. We came up with an idea and created the Helping Hands Building Trees of Hope Program benefiting a local women’s shelter in Durham Region.

Don Of All Trades is giving back to our community. Please donate to our Helping Hands Program benefiting women and children

Our goal in 2015 was to complete our first tree by the end of  December, with Helping Hands  from clients, friends, family and local businesses who donated items from our wish list which were given directly to the women and children in the shelter.

We are extremely happy to announce that we succeeded in reaching our goal!

We held many charity events such as  Our Charity BBQ for Hope Event, Helping Hands Women’s Charity Lunch No.1, Helping Hands Thanksgiving Women’s Lunch No. 2 and our best event ever, Helping Hands Charity High Tea. and we extremely thankful and humbled by all who showed their support by  donating  items, donating their time to assist.

By supporting women shelter organizations, we acknowledge that in order to end the cycle of violence we must work in partnership with our community.

We look forward to doing it all again  this year with more fun and exciting charity fundraiser events to give back to our  community.

Sheet Vinyl Flooring-Don Of All Trades

Vinyl is a great flooring preference  that fits every décor and budget. Vinyl floors are an affordable option that offers style, durability, and long-lasting performance. When installed correctly over the proper sub-flooring, vinyl is extremely resistant to dents, scratches, and stains.
Vinyl Flooring-Don Of All Trades photo 2[2] photo 3[2] photo 4[1]

Four more great reasons for choosing Vinyl Flooring  listed below.

Upkeep

Vinyl flooring is relatively easy to care for. You have to make sure that grit and dirt are kept swept free to maintain the surface of the floor. Then you can use a damp mop and an approved vinyl floor cleaner to remove stains.

Comfort

Vinyl flooring does not get cold in the winter, and is generally soft beneath your feet. Some vinyl sheets and tiles have a padded layer that can make walking on these floors even more pleasurable.

  Economical

At the low range, vinyl can cost as little as fifty cents per square foot. However higher end premium vinyl materials can cost as much as ten dollars a square foot. The difference in price is determined by the quality of the tile, and the design options found in the surface.

 Water Resistant

A well installed vinyl floor is almost impervious to water penetration, making this the perfect material for use in a bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, or other high moisture space in the home.

At Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services, our Home Improvement Specialists,  recommended  this type of sheet vinyl to install in the bathroom for two reasons.

Reason Number 1:

The first reason was the concern of a potential “tripping hazard.” Our client has difficulty lifting  his feet high off the ground. The original  bathroom floor tiles were popping off and the  risk of potentially  falling was extremely high. With sheet vinyl you greatly reduce of trips and falls.

Reason Number 2:

And the second reason being that because he is an older gentleman, this  sheet vinyl flooring  would be a warmer flooring alternative in the winter,  giving him more comfort when he utilizes the bathroom facilities.

Glass mosaic tile kitchen backsplash install by Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services
Glass mosaic tile kitchen backsplash install by Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services
Up for a DIY Mosaic Tile challenge? Here’s some important steps to remember BEFORE you start the installation process.

Important Information To Remember

  • Make sure the surface is level and clean prior to installation.
  • If applying mosaic tile on gypsum, it is important to apply a coat of primer prior to beginning your mosaic wall tile installation.
  • Always check all the purchased boxes of tiles before starting. I have been in situations where clients thought what they purchased was all the same tile when in fact what they brought home was 3 different types of tile.  This step saves everyone involved  a lot of time and aggravation.
  • Inspect each tile prior to installation.
  • When installing tiles, mix and match tiles from different cartons for a natural look.
  • If you are installing mosaic wall tiles in a shower, it is necessary to install a waterproof membrane.
  • Install any trim or profile strips before installing the mosaic wall tile.
  • Modified thin-sets are generally appropriate for mosaic wall tile installations. Pre-mixed thin-sets are not appropriate for bathroom installations, and should not be used for mosaics featuring glass wall tiles.
  • Follow all manufacturer’s instructions when applying modified thin-set and grout.
