Marble Mosiacs Tile-Don Of All Trades

Handy Tip Number 1

Be sure to wear safety glasses because there is going to be a lot of broken tile bits flying everywhere.

Marble Tile Mosiacs-Don Of All Trades

We started by removing the baseboard, sink and toilet. We then proceeded  to remove the porcelain tile on the floor. We chose to start in one corner and worked our way across the floor. The original  diamond lath that was under the tile was also removed and we  and continued right down to the sub floor.

Marble Mosaics Tile-Don Of All Trades

Marble Mosaics Tile-Don Of All Trades

We began the rebuild by screwing down the chipboard  and installing diamond lath and stapled it to the sub-floor. Next,  a scratch coat mortar was applied  to the diamond lath making sure that the end result was a base that was as level as possible.

Handy Tip Number 2

If you don’t have the skill set to apply scratch coat mortar evenly, another  option would be  to install cement board over the subfloor. It will save a lot of headache when you install the flooring on a level surface.

Marble Tile Mosiacs-Don Of All Trades

Handy Tip Number 3

When dealing with natural stone you always have to seal prior to grouting so that the natural stone does not absorb the colour of the grout.

Marble Mosaics Tile-Don Of All Trades

Once this process was completed we installed the Marble Mosaics tile without any issues. This floor was level and are happy to mention that we did not experience any uneven tile setting. With this type of tile, you cannot build up your floor  with mortar to compensate for an uneven surface. If you try to do this you could run into all sorts of problems with uneven tile and mortar squeezing out between the grout joints.

Once the marble mosaics tile had a day to set up, we then grouted the floor. Because this floor product is a natural stone, we applied an un-sanded grout and didn’t want to scratch the finish and keeping in mind that these grout joints were less that 4 millimeters.

The end result, spectacular! We absolutely love this marble mosaics tile flooring. Don of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services is looking forward to completing more flooring projects like this in the future!

Kind words from our clients…

This project involved  removing the sink from the vanity. The  water supply lines did not have  shut off valves so we  install two of them.

The next step was removing  the counter top and the original anchored vanity. New vinyl tiles were installed where the old vanity was originally located.

Our client saved money on flooring costs due to the fact that they had saved left over tile from when the floor was originally installed. The floor was grouted  which resulted in a perfect match.

This new Seaside Cottage Bath Vanity Model was installed including the La Toscana Novello Single Handle Lavatory Faucet Model tie everything together.

Update-Helping Hands Tree’s of Hope Project-Don of All Trades

Over the past 18 month we have been going through some big changes. We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes but we know you haven’t been really been able to see the benefits of those changes yet.

Below is just one of the important commitments we’ve been working on and will continue to work on in 2016.

At Don Of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services, we believe it’s important to give back to the community. We came up with an idea and created the Helping Hands Building Trees of Hope Program benefiting a local women’s shelter in Durham Region.

Our goal in 2015 was to complete our first tree by the end of  December, with Helping Hands  from clients, friends, family and local businesses who donated items from our wish list which were given directly to the women and children in the shelter.

We are extremely happy to announce that we succeeded in reaching our goal!

We held many charity events such as  Our Charity BBQ for Hope Event, Helping Hands Women’s Charity Lunch No.1, Helping Hands Thanksgiving Women’s Lunch No. 2 and our best event ever, Helping Hands Charity High Tea. and we extremely thankful and humbled by all who showed their support by  donating  items, donating their time to assist.

By supporting women shelter organizations, we acknowledge that in order to end the cycle of violence we must work in partnership with our community.

We look forward to doing it all again  this year with more fun and exciting charity fundraiser events to give back to our  community.

Natural Stone Backsplash- 8 Installation Tips-Don of All Trades

When remodeling a kitchen consider a Back Splash as part of your upgrades. Back splashes are a durable wall covering that protects your walls from water resulting in stains and molds. A kitchen is a high traffic area where most food preparation is made and is most likely to come into contact with water and greasy foods spatters.

You can enhance any floor or wall installation with these exquisite 12×14 mesh mounted marble mosaics  with the immanent natural shading of these classic stones.

Manufactures Recommended Applications:

  • Back splashes
  • Shower floors and walls
  • Appropriate for all residential  floor and wall applications
  • Light commercial floors

Don of All Trades Professional Home Maintenance Services recently installed this beautiful Sassi brand Bianco Polished Brick Mosaics  kitchen back splash . The results were and spectacular not to mention this natural stone is an interesting product to work with.

If you are planning on a DIY project,  we have provided 8 valuable tips to help you with your Bianco Polished Brick Mosaics Kitchen Back Splash installation including before and after photos to help you get the maximum results.

Bianco Polished Brick Mosaics-Don Of All Trades
Handy Tip Number 1

This is a natural stone product. The shade and colours will vary within cartons.

Handy Tip Number 2
Mix tiles from different cases to ensure optimal blending and install with mortar thin-set or tile adhesive.
 Handy Tip Number 3
When installing natural marble keep in mind that the stone is very soft and when you cut the stone be mindful that at the end of the cut you have the possibility of breaking the stone. We recommend using a scrap piece of stone tile behind the tile that is being cut to stabilize the cutting blade and reduce tile breakage.
Premium Stone Backsplash-Don of All Trades

  Handy Tip Number 4

When installing 12×12 sheet tile it is very important to use the proper v-notch trowel when applying the tile adhesive.  By applying too much adhesive and you will run into all sorts of problems with tile slippage and the adhesive squeezing out of the grout joints. Always follow manufactures recommendation on trowel size.
Bianco Polished Brick Mosaics-Don Of All Trades
 Handy Tip Number 5
When installing natural stone marble keep in mind that this type of stone is very heavy and you will need to use the proper mastic. All tile adhesive are not created equal. You will want to find a tile adhesive that is specified for use on natural stone. One that has a high bond strength and that will not sag is recommended. Ask your supplier what they carry and what’s best for your application.
Bianco Polished Brick Mosaics-Don Of All Trades
  Handy Tip Number 6
All natural stone needs to be sealed prior to grouting. Natural stone is very pores and will absorb the grout colour and hide the natural features of the stone. Not to mention it could ruin the job by giving an undesired look.  A premium penetrating sealer that can  enhance the features of the natural stone is recommended.
 Handy Tip Number 7

When picking a grout try to find one that complements all the colours that are in your natural stone. Typically when installing natural stone you want to use a non sanded grout.

Reasons for choosing non sanded are as follows:

Number 1:

Natural stone scratches very easily and you don’t want to damage the finish on the stone with the sand.

Number 2:

The second reason is these grout joints were less than 3 millimeters and it would be difficult to put sanded grout in such small joints.

 Handy Tip Number 8
Maintenance and care. Wipe sealed stone with a damp cloth. Only use cleaners specifically designed for natural stone.
Once you kitchen back splash project is complete, natural stone will give beauty and durability and should last a lifetime with proper maintenance.

 Kinds words from our client…

Don did a fantastic job on our backsplash. He came to our home and provided a quote and was able to do the backsplash the following week. He pays great attention to details. He was willing to come on multiple days in order to ensure that our stone was properly sealed, and grouted. The finished product is more than I could have even expected. He was very professional and just a wonderful person to do business with. We will certainly contact Don again when we do future renovations!
